Veteran tour angler Greg Hackney of Gonzales came through the Elite Series to coninue his streak of Bassmaster Classic appearance qualifing for his fifth straight tournament beginning in 2006.

The 40th Bassmater Classic will be held and Feb. 19-21 in Birmingham, Ala. Daily launching site is the Beeswax Creek Boat Ramp on Lay Lake. Weigh-in daily at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center.

Hackney will be joined by another Louisiana angler, Cliff Crochet of Pierre Part, who placed third in the Bassmaster Central Open out of Belle River Public Launch this past weekend.

Hackney placed 20th in last year’s classic out of Shreveport with a total weight of 38.6 pounds. His highest finish in the Classic came in 2008 out of Greenville, S.C., when in brought in 41.7 pounds.

Hackney, who has appeared in the Classic seven times, has career earnings of $1,108,703 fishing in 88 tournaments with three top place finishes and 70 times in the money. His total weight caught over his career is 2,975 pounds of fish.

Hackney won the 2009 Forrest Wood Cup championship in August claiming $500,000 when he edged Michael Iaconelli by three ounces on the Three Rivers in Pittsburgh
