Ascension Cougars crown three tri-parish champions

NAPOLEONVILLE – Three teams with the Ascension Cougars Youth Sports Organization were crowned champions Saturday of the Tri-Parish Youth Football League Super Bowl at Assumption High School’s Mustang Stadium.

The Cougars D team, made up of players ages 6 and younger, won the league’s Super Bowl title with a 6-0 victory over the Lake Titans. The Cougar’s lone touchdown came on a 13-yard run by Gage Larvadian. This was the second consecutive year the D Team won the title.

The Cougars C team, made up of players age 8 and younger, where behind, 0-6, against the Bayou Lafourche Raiders at halftime.

In the third quarter, Chase Davis carried the ball for a 5-yard run to tie the score, 6-6. On the ensuing kickoff, Devin Baker recovered the onside kick which set up the Cougar’s game-winning 68-yard drive. Quarterback Vanshon Grayson scored the winning touchdown on a 2-yard sneak. The Cougars kept the Raiders out of the end zone to win 12-6.

The Cougars B team, made up of players 10 and younger, shut out the Cypress Grove Fighting Bobcats, 20–0. The B Team had scoring runs of 72 yards by Koye Ruffin and 63 yards by Justin Daniels. The final score came on an 82-yard interception return by Gregory “Lil G” Clayton.

The Ascension Cougars will travel to Metairie to compete in the 14th Annual JPRD Bulldog Bowl this weekend.
