Dutchtown junior varsity kicks past Spartans, 7-6

East Ascension’s Jamarkus Moses and Dillon Thompson tackles Dutchtown’s Shawn Babin in the third quarter of the Griffins’ 7-6 junior varsity victory Wednesday night.

GEISMAR – Dutchtown claimed a 7-6 victory over East Ascension in junior varsity action Wednesday night at Griffin Field.

Shawn Babin capped the Griffins’ 12-play, 75-yard opening drive of the second half with a 5-yard touchdown run. Graham Wilfong’s kick with 7:56 left to play provided the difference. William Wyatt’s 4-yard run converted a third down before Babin’s 18-yard gallop and Grant McCrory’s 10-yard burst set up the score.

Chelon Stewart intercepted Adam Miller on the ensuing possession. Following a punt East Ascension would drive to to the Griffin 24 but Miller threw incomplete on fourth down and Dutchtown took a knee.

Dutchtown drove inside the red zone to open the contest behind Evan Maiocchi’s 19-yard completion to Alec Osbourne and 13-yard pass to Shelby Christy but Tyler Villavaso dropped Michael Davis for a loss and Maiocchi threw incomplete on fourth down.

Miller capped the ensuing 15-play, 76-yard drive with 2-yard sneak into the end zone to put East Ascension ahead 6-0. Russell Crain stopped Briscoe Davis on the conversion with 1:43 left to play in the first half.

Davis kickstarted the drive with a 17-yard run before Rafe Delatte hauled in a 18-yard completion from Miller off a tip from Blaine Babin. Davis’ 10-yard run and?Deandrus Ennis’ 6-yard burst set up the score.

Maiocchi connected with Christy for a 10-yard reception to open the next series but Dex Templet would sack him twice for losses of 6 and 9 yards before halftime.

Dutchtown won the freshmen game Tuesday 27-12.
