MAINIERI, HAYDEL?HONORED?BY?PARISH?COUNCIL?

Staff reports
LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri (with plaque) and former LSU player and Gonzales native Buzzy Haydel (with certificate) pose with President Tommy Martinez and the Ascension Parish Council at the Sept. 17 meeting. The council honored both Mainieri and Haydel for leading LSU to the 2009 College World Series title. The council proclaimed the day Paul Mainieri Day in Ascension Parish and Haydel led the Pledge of Allegiance. Mainieri said he appreciated the honor, but added that it should really be “LSU Baseball Team Day” because of what his players accomplished. “For three years I’ve gone around and been introduced as LSU’s baseball coach, and that’s nice,” Mainieri said. “But now people introduce me as the coach of the national championship-winning LSU Tigers, and that’s even better.”
