Gonzales Middle crushes Central to open up Ascension Parish League play

Gonzales Middle scored virtually at will in a 42-0 shutout of Central Thursday evening at Spartan?Stadium and open defense of the Bulldogs Ascension Parish Middle School League Championship.

Gonzales got on the board quickly when quarterback Chad Hill returned the opening kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown. Kaleb Bordelon’s kick put the Bulldogs ahead 7-0.

Hill, Deandre Darville and Kevin Martin combined for a safety against Central on the next possession to go ahead 9-0. Hill then scored on a 30-yard run and Bordelon’s kick made it 16-0 with 7:11 left in the first half.

Jaylon Watts hit Kajuan Gullage for a loss on the Mustangs’ ensuing possession before Hill connected with Jarred Adams for a 46-yard touchdown on fourth-and-7 with 3:07 left to play to cap a   5-play, 51-yard drive.

Central quaterback Layne Trahan was sacked by Salvadore Owens for a 4-yard loss on the next series and the Bulldogs quickly got the ball back but were unable to score before the horn after a 12-yard pickup by Darville and a 16-yard pitch and catch from Hill to Owens.

Jaz Smith recovered Garrin Dunbar’s fumble on the first play from scrimmage in the second half the Mustang 4 and Placid Nworkorie hit the right corner for a 9-yard touchdown a play later. Hill hit Smith on the conversion to make it 30-0 with 6:58 left in the quarter.

Lavonte McClyde ran in from 13 yards out to cap the Bulldogs’ next possession, a 5-play, 50-yard drive. Hill’s 20-yard keeper to the left sideline sparked the drive.

Conor Karwath would recover Trahan’s fumble on the next series and and Malik Anderson capped the scoring with a 2-yard run after keeping the drive alive with a 20-yard scamper. Milton?Pichardo hit Picard Buddy on the conversion to leave the score 42-0.

Gonzales hosts Lake Thursday, while Central will host Donaldsonville. Other games include Dutchtown at St. Amant and Prairieville at Galvez.
