Track club fares well in junior Olympics

D’André Jacobs placed third in the 200 and sixth in the 100 at the Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships recently.

The Future Track Club coach Dan Perkins was “very tired, but happy” Monday after returning home from the USA National Junior Olympic Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Greensboro, N.C.

Perkins was happy because of the “team’s excellent showing this year.”

Dutchtown Middle School student Corey McBride, 14, brought home a third-place win in the 200-meter dash and sixth-place in the 100-meter dash in the youth division.

D’André Jacobs, 16, competing in the intermediate division, finished third in the 200-meter dash and sixth in the 100-meter dash.

April Tasker, from Dutchtown High School, finished the triple jump in eighth place.

“We’re so proud of our team,” Perkins said.

Other Ascension Parish athletes competing included Breanna Sparrow, Erica Hardnett, Jordan Delmore, Evan Matheny, Justin Breaux, Leah Sparrow, Nakiya Smith, Titus Howard, Precious Semien and Beaunca Lewis.

The club is coached by Trent Ellis, Tracy Landry, Dante Perkins, Glen Soulé and Perkins.
