Richard to cap prep career as an All-Star

East Ascension’s Matt Richard and Dutchtown’s Dillon Day capped off their standout prep careers with invitations to this weekend’s Louisiana High School Coaches Association All-Star Baseball games at Bringhurst Park in Alexandria.

The first game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday. The second game will be Saturday at 12:15 p.m.

However, it was reported Day would not play Wednesday due to foot and arm injuries. Day, who played right field and pitched for Dutchtown, was selected as a pitcher for the East squad. Day earned first-team all-District 6-5A honors at both positions in 2009 after batting .431  with 19 runs and 12 RBIs. Day also was  6-1 on the mound with a .48 ERA striking out 65 in 43.1 innings pitched.

Richard battled injuries of his own this season coming off a torn ACL to earn second-team all-District 6-5A honors. Richard, who was chosen as an outfielder for the East batted .286 with eight runs and six RBIs in 21 at bats this season while stealing six bases. 

Neville coach Mark Carroll will serve as the head coach for the East. Assistant coaches are Rowland Skinner of Northlake Christian and Mitch Covington of Central

Airline’s Toby Todd is the head coach for the West. He will be assisted by Lakeside’s Bob Gray and Sam Houston’s Brad Book.
