Dutchtown’s Kelvin York signs a football scholarship with Texas Southern in Houston at his home in Prairieveille May 8. “It’s a big relief to have that behind me,” York said. “Good things come to those who wait.” York led the Griffins in rushing last fall with 1,264 yards. York rushed for over 1,000 yards for three straight seasons as the Griffins advanced to the playoff each year. Over that time span, York and running mate Eddie Lacy, an Alabama signee, combined to rush for 7,482 yards. “Eddie was a little more flashy and more outgoing but everybody in this program knows they were equally important to our success,” Dutchtown head coach Benny Saia said. York, a 5-11, 220 pounder said he had interest for Louisiana Tech and Southern but Texas Southern was the only school to make an official scholarship offer.
