15 locals named to All-District 6-5A softball first team

A total of 15 area softball players were named to the District 6-5A first team recently announced by district coaches.

District runner-up St. Amant led the contingent with six first-teamers, the most of any team. East Ascension added five, while Dutchtown placed three on the first team.

St. Amant senior second baseman Bridget Buquoi, junior pitcher Aime Parent and junior shortstop Kandace Boudreaux, all all-district first-team selections for the third consecutive season, were joined by senior catcher Emily Douglas, junior outfielder Melanie Parker, junior first baseman Gabrielle Templet and senior outfielder/pitcher Amanda Martin as utility.

East Ascension junior pitcher Rachel LeCoq, senior shortstop Evan Babin and senior outfielder Olivia Maher, all first-team all-district selections for the third consecutive season, were joined by sophomore pitcher Chelsea LeBlanc and sophomore catcher Tiffany Robinson.

Dutchtown sophomore pitcher Alexi Reynolds and sophomore catcher Jade Bourgeois as utility return to the first-team for the second consecutive season joined by freshmen outfielder Carey Alexis.

Second-team all-district selections were St. Amant junior third baseman Kelly Luquette, East Ascension freshmen second baseman Brooke Courville, Dutchtown junior outfielder MacKenzie Kohler and Dutchtown junior first baseman Hannah Bergeron.

Buquoi led St. Amant with a .465 average and 36 RBIs overall. She also hit one home run and scored 37 runs while stealing seven bases. In district, Buquoi batted .424 with 13 RBIs and 12 runs. Buquoi made honorable mention all-district in 2006.

Parent, last year’s District 6-5A MVP, was 20-5 overall with a 1.35 ERA striking out 91 over 155 innings while walking 21. In district, Parent recorded a 5-3 record with 1.80 ERA striking out 30 over 50.2 innings and walking 10.

Boudreaux batted .406 with three home runs, 28 RBIs and 27 runs overall. In district, Boudreaux hit .310 with seven RBIs and six runs. Boudreaux made first-team all-district as a designated player as a freshmen.

Douglas, a first-team selection in 2008 and second-teamer as a sophomore, batted .330 overall with 18 RBIs and 30 runs. In district, she batted .320 with four RBIs and eight runs.

Parker, a repeat first-team selection who earned second-team honors as a freshmen, batted .384 with 36 RBIs and 28 runs overall to go with a team-high four home runs while stealing five bases. In district, Parker batted .370 with 14 RBIs and eight runs.

Templet, a second-team selection last year, batted .333 with 13 RBIs and 23 runs overall while stealing four bases. In district, Templet batted a team-high .471 with two RBIs and nine runs.

Martin hit .364 with 15 RBIs and 20 runs overall while stealing 10 bases. In district, Martin hit .435 with four RBIs and seven runs and stole two bases. In the circle, Martin also was 8-0 overall with a .28 ERA striking out 50 over 49 innings walking just five. Martin was 2-0 in district with a .00 ERA striking out eight in 12 innings.

LeCoq, also one of the Lady Spartans top hitters, was 9-8 overall in the circle with 153 strikeouts.

Babin, who also made first team as a utility player as a sophomore and was a second-team all-district infielder as a freshman, batted .303 with 12 RBIs, three doubles and one triple with a fielding percentage of .982.

Maher batted .250 with 13 RBIs and six doubles to go with a 1.000 fielding percentage. Maher was a second-team all-district selection as a freshman.

LeBlanc, a second-team all-district selection as a freshmen was 10-5 overall with a .123 ERA and 136 strikeouts in 97 innings. LeBlanc also batted .230 with 10 RBIs.

Robinson, also a second-team selection as a freshmen, batted .346 with 15 RBIs, two home runs and four doubles.

Reynolds was 16-11 overall with a 1.20 ERA striking out 188 over 178 innings while walking 49. In district, Reynolds was 5-5 with a 1.81 ERA striking out 74 in 65 innings while walking 17. Reynolds also batted .185 overall with five RBIs and four runs.

Bourgeois batted .281 overall with 14 RBIs and 15 runs including four doubles and one triple while stealing six bases. In district, Bourgeois hit .250 with four RBIs and six runs. Overall, Bourgeois had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Alexis batted .283 overall with five RBIs and nine runs stealing four bases and hitting seven doubles. In district, Alexis batted a team-high .450 with two RBIs and two runs.

Bergeron, a second-team selection as designated player a year ago, led the Lady Griffins with a .284 batting average to go with 15 RBIs and six runs while stealing four bases hitting a team-high 11 doubles. In district, Bergeron hit .185 with five RBIs and one run.

Kohler, also a second-team selection last year, hit .247 with seven RBIs and 12 runs overall stealing three bases. In district, Kohler hit .355 with one RBI and four runs.
