ABSOLUTELY: Ascension Catholic, Grisaffe shut down Delcambre in semifinals

SULPHUR - Ascension Catholic scored multiple runs in the first, second and third innings on way to a 7-0 Class 1A semifinal victory over defending state champion Delcambre Saturday morning at the LHSAA Top 56 Softball State?Tournament at Frasch Park.
No. 6 seed Ascension Catholic (20-13-1) advanced to face top seed Ouachita Chrisitan in the state finals Saturday evening. No. 2 seed South Cameron ended the season with a 23-8 overall record.
Ashlyn Grisaffe got the win striking out nine over seven innings and surrendered just four hits. Jaci Trahan took the loss lasting just two innings.
Nancy Guillot singled to open the bottom of the first and stole second before Anna Lassere reached on an error that plated a run. Allison Falcon’s groundout put the Lady Bulldogs ahead 2-0.
Trahan walked Aimee Guillot with one out in the second inning and Maggie Schexnayder singled before Ali Bourchereau’s fielder’s choice forced the runner at home.
Nancy Guillot singled before?Lassere’s crossed two more runs and Allison Falcon’s liner to left gave the Lady?Bulldogs a 5-0 lead.
Grisaffe retired nine straight batters before Kellie Nero and Trahan led off the fifth with consecutive single but Grisaffe struckout Linzy Landry and MaKayal Viator to end the inning unscathed.
Lassere singled to right to open the bottom half and Falcon reached on an error before Annie Ourso’s double reflected the final tally.
Trahan doubled to left with two outs in the top of the seventh but Landry flied out to second baseman Bouchereau to end the game.
Lassere was 3 for 4 ith two RBIs and two runs for Ascension?Catholic, while Nancy Guillot was 2 for 4 with one RBIs and two runs and Ouros was 1 for 3 with one RBI.
