Outstanding Wrestler
Eunice had a nearly perfect season in 2008-09, winning all but one of the tournaments he entered. He capped a memorable career by winning the Division I State Championship at 140 pounds with a 6-2 decision over Jesuit’s Chad Johnson at the LHSAA state wrestling meet at the Ponchartrain Center.
Eunice, who won the Lee Invitational as a sophomore and is the only wrestler from Ascension Parish to ever claim that, placed second in that meet during his senior season to St. Paul’s Korey Miller. He defeated Brusly’s Ty Welch to capture his second consecutive Greater Baton Rouge City Championship.
Also a District 6-5A champion, Eunice finished the season with a 24-1 record.

Hamilton progressed as the season went on placing fourth at state. He finished the season wtih a record of 22-19 capturing the last win in matches over area wrestlers.

Coaches of the Year
Brown and Chapman led the Gators to one of their best seasons in 2008-09. St. Amant placed 11th at the Division I state meet.
The Gators also won the Tara Christmas Invitational, took third overall at the Greater Baton Rouge City Championships and fifth at the Lee Invite, each the program’s highest finish, while also capturing the Jambalaya Cup.

Waguespack won the Greater Baton?Rouge City Championship defeating Live Oak’s Cody Cormier 16-0 while also winning the District 6-5A and parish titles.
Waquespack placed second at the Spartan Invitational and third at the Lee Invitational finishing with an overall record of 39-7 and making All-Parish for the second consecutive season.

Chenevert placed second in District 6-5A and second at the Jamabalaya Cup compiling a record of 30-21.

Curtis placed second at the Greater Baton Rouge City Championships losing to St. Michael’s Ben Williford. The District 6-5A champion finished with a record of 18-15.

Rawls makes the All-Parish team for the second consecutive season after winning the District 6-5A championships, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Lee Invitational and placing fourth at the City Chamipionships.

Gravelle, the 2007-08 All-Parish Freshmen of the Year, had another strong season as a sophomore going undefeated against parish competition and winning the District 6-5A championship, while placing second at the Greater?Baton Rouge City Championships and Catholic Invitational, third at the Dutchtown Invitational and Sam Sara, fifth at the State Meet and sixth at the Lee Invitational to finish with an overall records of 43-16.

Smith won the Greater Baton Rouge City Championship and the District 6-5A title, while placing second at the Spartan Invitational and fourth at the State Meet and the Lee Invitational to finish with an overall record of 44-12.

Palmisano, the District 6-5A champion, also placed second at the Greater Baton Rouge City Championships, fourth at State and fifth at the Lee Invitational to finish with an overall record of 30-9 making All-Parish for the second consecutive season.

Harvey won the Greater Baton Rouge City Championship and the District 6-5A title. Harvey placed second at Sam Sara and Ken Cole and fourth at the Lee Invitational to finish with an overall record of 27-8 making All-Parish for the second consecutive season.
