Gonzales Middle School students Joshua Andrews, Kia Johnson, and Chad Hill competed in the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Regional Skills Challenge during the New Orleans Hornets - Utah Jazz basketball game April 5 at the New Orleans Arena. Andrews, fourth from left, and Hill, sixth from left, won their respective divisions and will represent Louisiana in the Finals in Orlando this May.

Chad Hill, left, and Joshua Andrews, right, recently participated in the NBA?Skills Challenge regional competition before a New Orleans’ Hornets basketball game at New Orleans Arena April 6. Hill won first place in the 13-14 year division and Andrews won first place in the 11-12 year old division. Hope Youth Development, Inc. sponsored the local event. Director Mark Peters, center, said the organization is non-profit and offfers hope to kids through non-traditional sports physical fitness and education. Hill and Andrews are now eligible to participate in the National Competition in Orlando.
