EASL?to tour Kisatchie National Forest May 2

The East Ascension Sportsman League is going to tour Kisatchie National Forest  May 2.

Jim Caldwell, Public Affairs and Recreation staff officer, will be the tour guide. The group will leave Gonzales at 7 a.m.

You will need to bring you a picnic lunch, which will be eaten at a camp site in the forest. The group  will car pool there from a location to be determined later.

You will get a chance to see the Red Cocked headed woodpecker colony – a Ranger may retrieve one of the young from it’s nest –  the Kisatchie Bayou camp site  which has rushing water over rocks – which is rapids in Louisiana -   and over look a terrain that appears to be mountains in Louisiana. There is a cave.

The tour should be over around 5 p.m. 

“You won’t believe you are still in Louisiana,” a spokeman said.
