Bulldogs crush Redemptorist

Ascension Catholic’s Tyler Kliebert picked up the win over Redemptorist Wednesday evening surrendering five hits over three innings.

DONALDSONVILLE - Ascension Catholic jumped out to a six run lead and added three runs in both the third and fourth innings to ten-run rule Redemptorist 12-2 Wednesday night in non-district play at LaLa Regira Field at the South Louisiana State Fairgrounds.

“We hit the ball well today and it was a fun game to watch,” Ascension Catholic head coach Todd Landry said. “It is a big win for our program and school.”

Tyler Kliebert picked up the win on the mound giving up two runs on five hits and no walks while striking out one in three innings. Charles Caballero got the save in two innings of hitless relief striking out four.

“I thought Tyler gave us three very good innings and Charles pitched well,” Landry said.

Heath Pickling took the loss for Redemptorist giving up six runs in one inning. Sam Guitreau surrendered six runs in two innings of relief before Ramon Rodriquez registered the final three outs.

“I didn’t commit the crime,” Redemptorist head coach Jonathan Ramsey said. “I am innocent. They did their job and hit the ball but we just couldn’t find the strike zone and that was the difference in the game.”

Kliebert retired the first three batters he faced striking out Seth Englade to end the inning.

Pickling hit Kliebert in the head to open the bottom half and Ross Noel drew a one out walk before Caballero’s fielder’s choice put runners in scoring position. Brandon Burns grounder to short put the Bulldogs on the board.

Jody Chustz lined to left with one out in the second inning and Pickling grounded pass short an out later but Dean Samson grounded out to third baseman Jesse Pizzolato to end the inning.

Taylor Cavalier lined out of the glove at second to open the bottom half and Tre` Daze` lined pass second to put runners on the corners. Taylor Marcello reached on a bobbled bunt to the mound to load the bases and Kliebert drew a walk to plate a run. Pizzolato lined over short to cross another before Noel’s walk put the Bulldogs ahead 4-0. Caballero’s double to right plated two more runs with no one out in the inning.

Burns drew a walk off Guitreau to load the bases but runners were thrown out at home on consecutive grounders to third.

Todd Hall lined to left with one out in the third inning and Ryan Cedotal’s double put runners in scoring position before Englade lined to center to plate two runs putting Redemptorist on the board but catcher Nick Ourso threw him out stealing second to shortstop Marcello to end the inning.

Guitreau hit Kliebert with one out in the bottom half and Pizzolato grounded pass the mound before Noel’s double to the right gap plated two runs. Caballero lined to center to cross another putting the Bulldogs ahead 9-2.

Caballero retired Redemptorist in order to open the fourth.

Cavalier beat out a grounder and stole second to open the bottom half before Daze` grounded through the left infield to put runners on the corners. Marcello hit the same spot to plate a run before Kliebert beat out a bunt to load the bases. Pizzolato’s walk crossed another run before Rodriquez walked Noel to reflect the final tally.

Caballero struckout Samson, Guitreau and Hall in orderly fashion in the fifth inning to end the game.

Pizzolato was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs, while Caballero was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Noel was 1 for 1 with four RBIs.

Englade was 1 for 2 with two RBIs.
