Claiborne named to Class 5A All-State first team

St. Amant’s Rashaun Claiborne was recently named to the LSWA’s Class 5A All-State first team after averaging 20 points, 10 rebounds, four blocked shots, three assists and two steals.

BATON?ROUGE - St. Amant senior forward Rashaun Claiborne recently added to his post season accolades by being named to the Class 5A All-State first team.

The District 6-5A MVP was selected by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association to the first team after averaging 20 points per game to go with 10 rebounds, four blocked shots, three assists and two steals.

St. Amant placed second in District 6-5A standings and advanced to the Class 5A regionals playoffs.

St. Amant senior guard Brandon Morris was also selected to the Class 5A All-State honorable mention team after leading the Gators with a 23 point scoring average to go with seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Ouachita senior Nick Hayward was named?Class 5A most outstanding player after leading the Lions to the state championship and averaging 19.3 points, 5.1 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 steals.

Huntington’s Kendrick Washington (19.4 points, 12 rebounds), Ricky Johnson of Carencro (26.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 3.3 steals) and Jacoby Colbert of Westgate (20.2 points, eight rebounds, two blocks) complete the boys’ first team.

The boys’ second team included Roosevelt Johnson of Destrehan (18.6 points per game), Jordane Ganapamo of Mandeville (20.0 ppg); Chip Armelin of Sulphur (17.8 ppg); Xavier Blackburn of St. Thomas More (14.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists); and Cory Lacy of West Monroe (14.3 ppg).

Brian Lumar of runner-up Hahnville was selected as  Coach of the Year.
