Griffins crush EA in district opener
GEISMAR?–Dutchtown crossed 11 runs in the fourth inning on way to a 15-1 victory over East Ascension to open District 6-5A play Thursday night at Griffin Park.
The Griffins (15-3-2, 1-0) plated three runs in the first inning and added another in the third. East Ascension’s lone run came in the fifth inning.
“Our kids were ready to play the game,” Dutchtown head coach Chris Schexnaydre said. “We were fortunate at the beginning of the game. They misplayed a few balls and that opened the doors for us before we busted it open in the fourth inning. It is always key to start off district on a winning note but we want to take every game like it is the most important one because it is the next one.”
East Ascension (7-10-1, 0-1) committed four errors to Dutchtown’s one.
Dillon Day picked up the win for the Griffins allowing one run on one hit. Bradly Day took the loss for the Spartans.
Day was also 1 for 3 with a triple and four RBIs. Troy Lewis was perfect hitting 4 for 4 with a double and one RBI, while Britt Gautreaux was 1 for 2 with a double and two RBIs.
Marcus Bailey got East Ascension’s lone hit and was 1 for 2.
