West, Grant, Cobbins named to District 6-5A first team

East Ascension seniors, center Josie West and guard Kaneesha Grant and Dutchtown sophomore forward Ka’Nesheia Cobbins were recently named to the All-District 6-5A first team.

Earning second-team honors was sophomore guard Alexis Ruth of East Ascension. East Ascension’s Symone Miller, Dutchtown’s Rhondalon Popularus and Maureen Gross and St. Amant’s Megan Poore and Bria Turner earned honorable mention.

West led East Ascension, which advanced to the Class 5A quarterfinals, with 11 rebounds per game to go with 12 points, two blocks and 1.5 steals. Grant averaged 11.4 points per game to go with five assists, five rebounds and four steals, while Ruth led the Lady Spartans with 12.4 points per game to go with four rebounds, three assists and three steals and Miller averaged 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals per game.

Cobbins led Dutchtown, which advanced to the Class 5A playoffs, with 20 points, 11 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.2 steals per game. Popularus averaged 12 points, 3.5 rebounds, two assists and two steals per game, while Gross had 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots.

Turner averaged 10.5 points per game to lead St. Amant, while Poore had eight points.
