Hanlon headlines District 6-I team; Fruge, Martinez named co-offensive MVPs

Dutchtown senior goalkeeper Ian Hanlon was recently named the overall MVP of District 6-I after registering 160 saves in 30 games with 18 clean sheets.

Dutchtown senior goalkeeper Ian Hanlon was one of the main reasons the Griffins advanced to the Division I quarterfinals this season helping the team allow just 21 goals on the season.

Hanlon was recently recognized by District 6-I coaches as the overall district MVP and the first-team goalkeeper after registering 160 saves in 30 games with 18 clean sheets.

Dutchtown senior Drake Fruge and East Ascension senior Samir Martinez were named co-offensive MVPs as well as to the first-team. Fruge scored 26 total goals for the Griffins and had 16 in district play, while registering 14 assists overall and 11 in district. Martinez scored 11 goals overall with seven coming in district and had nine assists overall, eight of those coming in district.

A total of nine players from the parish made first-team including Dutchtown junior Ricky Lawrence, Dutchtown senior Grant Auzenne, East Ascension senior Justin?Ruiz, East Ascension senior Blake Parr, East Ascension junior Carlos Hermosillo, St. Amant freshmen Jaxon Lambert and St. Amant senior Albero Lopez.

Dutchtown, which won the district championship with a 9-1 record had three players make the second team - junior Colin Poche and junior Caleb Alexander.

East Ascension, which advanced to the Division I regionals and were the district runner-up placed four players on the second team - senior Cesar Vallin, senior Miquel Medrano, senior Edwin Morales and senior Chad Leodler.

St. Amant placed three on the second team in junior Trett Bourgeois, sophomore Michell Sekulich and sophomore Dillion Puccio.

Lawrence scored 11 goals overall with four coming in district, while registering eight assists overall. Auzenne was one of the Griffins’ top defenders and also registered two assists. Poche recorded five goals overall with two coming in district and had 17 assists, five in district. Caleb Alexander was another top defender who registered three assists this season.

Ruiz had five goals and 20 assists overall and three goals and 12 assists in district play, while Parr scored 25 goals with eight coming in district and had eight assists overall with six in district. Hermosillo  scored eight goals in the season and five in district while providing nine assists overall and two in district. Vallin scored 11 goals in the season and two in district, while providing nine assists overall. Medrano had seven goals this season with two in district and provided seven assists overall. Morales scored 10 goals overall with six assists and had seven in district. Leodler saved 154 shots at goalkeeper for East Ascension.

Lambert scored 30 goals for St. Amant and provided 15 assists. Lopez scored three goals and had seven assists. Bourgeois had 10 goals and three assists while Sekulich scored nine goals and had four assists and Puccio was a top defender.
