Lady Gators blank ESJ in district opener

RESERVE - St. Amant scored in every inning except the second taking a 10-0 victory over East St. John in five innings in the District 6-5A opener for both teams.

Amanda Martin picked up the win for the Lady Gators (16-0, 1-0) in the circle striking out five while giving up just one hit and one walk.

Lindsey Scioneaux took the loss surrendering 10 runs on 10 hits and four walks while striking out one

Martin drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the first before Bridget Buquoi lined to left center.  Brooke Capello reached on an error one out later after Martin and Buquoi scored on fielding errors to give St. Amant a 2-0 lead.

Allison Hope opened the second inning with an infield single before Lauren Garleipied drew a walk after Micah Hayes’ fielders’ choice. A pass ball advanced runners before Martin walked to load the bases after Kelly Luquette popped up but Buquoi grounded out to third to end the Lady Gators’ inning.

East St. John threatened in the bottom half when Jamie Brown drew a one-out walk and advanced on a sacrifice bunt before a fielding error put runners on the corners but Scioneaux flied out to end the inning.

Scioneaux hit Melanie Parker to open the third inning before Templet lined a one-out single to left. Hope reached on an error to load the bases before Hayes’ single to left plated two runs. Garlepied and Luquette grounded into fielder’s choices to end the inning.

Martin reached on an error to open the fourth inning before Buquoi singled to left. Parker’s double to left plated two runs before Templet’s one-out single put runners on the corners. Hope’s sacrifice fly put St. Amant ahead 7-0.

Scioneaux hit Garlepied to open the fifth inning before Luquette singled to left. Martin’s sacrifice bunt advanced runners and Buquoi’s single to left center plated a run. Capello’s single to left crossed two more runs to reflect the final tally.

Buquoi was 3 for 4 with one RBI and three runs, while Templet was 2 for 3 with one run and Parker was 1 for 3 with two runs.
