Lady Spartans hold off Walker in St. Amant Invite tourney

East Ascension scored five runs in the third inning on way to a 6-2 victory over Walker Friday evening during the St. Amant Invitational at Lady Spartan Park.
Chelsea LeBlanc got the win for East Ascension striking out seven while giving up two runs on one walk and five hits.
East Ascension threatened in the bottom of the first inning when leadoff hitter Evan Babin drew a walk and Brooke Courville beat out a grounder to the circle.?Jade St. Pierre’s one-out sacrifice bunt advanced runners but Walker starter Lacy Sewell forced Tiffany Robinson to pop up.
Lindsey Citreo lined a two-out double in the second inning but LeBlanc struckout Shanyna Mansur.
Olivia Maher reached on an error to lead off the bottom half and scored on Babin’s two-out liner inside the third base bag after Brandi Cedotal lined through the right infield.
Kathryn Greene dropped a hit into center to lead off the third inning. Maddie Spangler drew a walk and Codi Covington reached on a shank to load the bases but shortstop Babin threw out Greene at home to catcher Robinson on Hali Westmoreland’s grounder and Kaylee Guidry’s groundout ended the inning.
Rachel LeCoq lined through the center of the infield to open the bottom half and St. Pierre reached on interference. Maher then lined out to second to plate a run before LeBlanc worked a walk. St. Pierre scored on a pass ball and Cedotal reached on a grounder to first that was bobbled.
Shelby Young lined a triple to the right corner to plate two runs giving East Ascension a 5-0 lead. The final damage came when Babin liner to left was dropped by Mansur to plate another run.
Guidry relieved Sewell with in the fourth inning and retired the first three batters she faced striking out St. Pierre and Maher.
Greene lined a double to the left field wall to open the fifth inning and advanced to third on Spangler’s groundout. Covington then reached on a grounder to the circle that plated a run before stealing second.
Westmoreland’s blooper to shallow left crossed another run to reflect the final tally.
Young was 1 for 3 with two RBI and one run for East Ascension, while Babin was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
The Lady?Spartans opened the tournament with a 7-2 victory over Sacred Heart of Ville Platte.
East Ascension fell to Mount Carmel 4-0 and St. Thomas More 1-0 Saturday.
