Lady Griffins rip Kaplan in Dutchtown Classic tourney

Dutchtown’s Alexi Reynolds winds up in the sixth inning of the Lady Griffins’ 7-1 victory over Kaplan at the Dutchtown Classic Saturday afternoon. Reynolds stuckout out 10 in the complete game win.

GEISMAR - Dutchtown scored three runs in the first inning and added four in the second on way to 7-1 victory over Kaplan in the Dutchtown Classic Saturday afternoon at Lady Griffin Park.

Alexi Reynolds pitched a complete game for the Lady Griffins to pick up the win allowing one run on six hits and three walks while striking out 10.

Kaplan took the early lead when leadoff hitter Terrisita Vallery reached and scored on Lanie Hollier’s sacrifice. Reynolds struckout Blair Frith to get out of the inning without further damage.

Dutchtown quickly answered in the bottom half when leadoff hitter Jade Bourgeois lined through the center of the infield and scored on Hannah Bergeron’s two-out double to center. Reynolds then lined pass short before Bergeron and pinch running Carly Melancon scored on Hayden Wood’s double to the let corner.

Averi Parnell led off the bottom of the second with a double to the left gap. Justine Tureau then reached on a bung before Faydra Hall’s liner through the center of the infield plated a run. Kaplan starter Ashlyn Hargrove walked Mackenzie Kohler to load the bases before Bergeron’s deep shot to center plated a run.

Reynolds’ blooper to shallow right crossed another run leaving the bases still loaded before Wood lined to third and Kohler was safe at home reflecting the final tally.

Brittany LeBeoue relieved Hargrove in the third inning surrendering consecutive two-out walks to Bourgeois and Hall but struckout Kohler to get out of the inning.

LeBeoue surrendered walks to Bergeron and Brionne Winey in the fourth inning but Parnell grounded out to end the inning.

Kara Harris reached in the fifth inning and stole third but was thrown out at home by left fielder Kohler to catcher Bourgeois.

Reynolds surrendered a walk to open the sixth inning before?Hollier lined through the right infield. Reynolds then walked Frith loading the bases but struckout Taylor Choate,?Gabbi Larmand and Harris consecutively to get out of the jam.

Hargrave took the loss surrendering seven runs on eight hits and one walk. LeBeoue gave up no runs in four innings of relieve striking out five, while walking five and giving up two hits.

Reynolds was 3 for 4 with one RBI, while Hall was 2 for 3 with one RBI?and one run, Wood was 1 for 3 with three RBI?and Bergeron was 1 for 3 with one RBI?and one run.

Dutchtown opened the tournament with a 7-0 victory over Denham Springs Friday before falling 2-1 to Sulphur Saturday morning.
