Lady Gators push past New Iberia to sweep Invite

St. Amant’s Melanie Parker lines an RBI double to center field in the first inning of the Lady Gators’ 9-2 victory over New Iberia in the St. Amant Invitational at Butch Gore Park Saturday afternoon.

LAKE - St. Amant scored in every inning but one to overtake New Iberia 9-2 Saturday afternoon at Butch Gore Park completing a three-game sweep in the St. Amant Invitational.

The Lady Gators (15-0) also defeated Terrebonne 10-0 and False River Academy 10-2.

Amie Parent went five innings for the Lady?Gators to pick up the win while giving up two runs on six hits and four walks. Amanda Martin picked up the save striking out one in one inning of relief.

The Lady Gators torched New Iberia starter Erin Stutes for 13 hits.

New Iberia got on the board first. Brittany Stein lined to left with one out before Brittany Dugas reached on a fielders’ choice and scored on Kalay Lopez’s single after Stutes singled to center.

St. Amant quickly answered in the bottom half of the first when lead off hitter Kelly Luquette homered to center. Emily Douglas then drew a walk before Melanie Parker lined a double to center to plate another run. Kandace Boudreaux dropped a hit over short to give the Lady Gators a 3-0 lead.

Martin dropped a single over short to open the bottom of the second inning and scored on Luquette’s double to the left fence. After Douglas’ sacrafice bunt, Buquoi lined to right to plate another run putting St. Amant ahead 5-1.

Chaney Trahan beat out a bobbled bunt to the circle to open the third inning  and Stein reached before Dugas lined to left to cut it to 5-2. Megan Thomas drew a walk to load the bases with two outs but Parent forced Laurie Hoffpauier to pop up to second baseman Bridget Buquoi.

Martin beat out a grounder to open St. Amant’s fourth inning before Douglas lined a one-out double to the right corner to plate a run. Buquoi then lined off Stutes before Parker reached on an error by shortstop Thomas that allowed another run.

The Lady Gators picked up another run in the fifth inning when Whitney Trosclair lined to center and scored on Luquette’s sacrafice after Gabrielle Templet’s sacrafice bunt and Martin’s single to center.

Buquoi lined a double to the left gap to open the Lady Gators sixth inning and scored on the throw to first after Lauren Garlepied struckout following Boudreaux’s single to left.

Luquette was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI and two runs, while Buquoi was 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs and Martin was 3 for 3 with two runs.

Parent picked up the win against Terrebonne striking out three. Martin stuckout eight in the victory over False River.

Through the three games, Buquoi was 8 for 11 with 3 RBI and six runs, while Boudreaux batted 7 for 12 with 4 RBI and three runs and Parker wsa 5 for 12 with 4 RBI?and four runs.
