Douglas, Tasker, Pitts claim state indoor track and field titles

BATON?ROUGE?- St. Amant’s Wayne Douglas, Dutchtown’s Claudia Tasker and East Ascension’s Lynnika Pitts all won individual state titles at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Indoor Championships held Feb. 21 at LSU's Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.

Catholic piled up 101 points to win its third straight Division I-Classes 5A and 4A boys title. Dutchtown was third with 25 points, followed by St. Amant, which finished tied for 13th with eight points.

On the girls’ side, Northside won the team title with 58 points. Dutchtown placed fourth with 24 points, while East Ascension was tied for sixth with 20 points.

Douglas jumped 45-4 1/4 to win the triple jump.

Tasker leaped 36-6 to win the triple jump edging Pitt’s jump of 36-3. Pitts won the high jump with a lead of 5-2.

Dutchtown’s Raven Sims also placed third in the long jump with a leap of 17-2 1/2.

Dutchtown’s Jeff Boudreaux also placed third in the 1,600 meter run crossing in 4:35.42. Teammate Shaquille Brown also placed third in the 800 meter run finishing in 2:00.48.

The Griffins took second in the 3,200 relay with a time of 8:30.10 behind Catholic’s 8:7.86.
