GEISMAR - Dutchtown overcame a early deficit to Archbishop Hannan and notched five runs in the fourth inning on way to a 7-2 victory in the Coach “I” Tournament Saturday morning at Lady Griffin Park.

“It took awhile to make adjustments to their pitcher,” Dutchtown head coach Nancy Ensminger said. “We had a couple of people out of position early which may have led to their two runs. Once we brought Alexi (Reynolds) in the circle, we were a little more stable defensively. Amanda (Vicknair) was doing great but our defense was mixed up.”

Rachel Leddy reached on an error to open the contest and after a walk and fielder’s choice Victoria St. Phillip’s hit drove in two runs.

Katie Bailey held the Lady Griffins scoreless through two innings.

Averi Parnell line a two-out double off the left field wall in the bottom of the third to get the Lady Griffins going. Jade Bourgeois reached on a grounder to short and MacKenzie Kohler’s liner to center plated two runs.

Reynolds entered in the fourth inning and forced Leddy to pop up to Bourgeois in foul territory before striking out the next two batters.

Carey Alexis doubled off to right center off the fence to open the bottom of the fourth and Vicknair reached on a error to play a run before taking second.

Reynolds dropped a blooper to shallow right center with one out before Justine Tureau’s grounder to third was held to load the bases.

Hayden Wood then lined pass short to plate two runs before Parnell lined to left center to cross two more for the final tally.

Reynolds allowed a lead off hit in the fifth and hit a batter before striking out the next three to pick up the win.

Reynolds stuckout five in two innings while giving up one hit and walking none. Vicknair stuckout two in three innings of work.

Dutchtown opened the tournament with a 11-0 victory over H.L.?Bourgeois before falling 3-2 to Mandeville. The Lady Griffins closed out the weekend with a 7-0 victory over West Feliciana.

“We are working hard,” Ensminger said. “We just have to work a little harder. We have a long season ahead of us.”

Vicknair pitched against H.L. Bourgeois striking out two while walking two. Bourgeois was 2 for 3 with two runs and four RBI, while Vicknair was 2 for 2 with two runs and one RBI and Hannah Bergeron was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI?and two runs.
