Mayers named LTA tennis professional of the year

Graylin Mayers, vice president for the Ascension Tennis Association (ATA) recently recieved the Tennis Professional of the Year Award presented by the Louisiana Tennis Asssociation (LTA) at their annual board meeting and awards ceremony Dec. 6 at the CIty Club at River Ranch in?Lafayette.

Mayers was recognized for his dedication to the youth programs for ATA?and coaching and mentoring students. He has conducted tennis clinics for students aged five to 14 and in instrumental in developing a tennis pathway for the youth in the parish.

With their skill advancement, they move into the junior league team tennis program and compete in state competition in the spring.

Many are selected for their high school teams and then advance to adult leagues.

“Graylin is committed to ATA’s mission which is to provide programs and activities to enhance and promote growth in tennis for all ages in Ascension Parish,” president Gloria Berthelot.

Mayers is the Tennis Welcome Center coordinator for the Gonzales Tennis Facility and coordinates two tennis tournaments per year for ATA?members.

Mayers received his USTA/PTR certification in Nov. 2005 and continues to update his training aand tennis knowledge. He is a member of the professional tennis registry and a USTA?member for 26 years.
