Dutchtown’s Chelsea Cruthirds takes a shot on goal ahead of Westgate’s Kathy Huynh in the first half of the Lady Griffins’ 2-0 Division I bi-district playoff victory Friday night.

GEISMAR - Dutchtown scored within the first five minutes and added another 10 minutes before half-time on way to a 2-0 Division I bi-district playoff victory over Westgate Friday night at Griffin Field.

“Once we scored the two goals we became complacent and didn’t play as sharp as we have before,” Dutchtown head coach Anant Vyas said. “I think they hustled more than anything else. This was their first time in the playoffs so they came highly motivated. They just challenged each and every ball and the whole team ran up and down the field. The pressure caused us to not focus.”

No. 7 seed Dutchtown (21-3-2) got goals from Lexi Gibbs and Chelsea Cruthirds. The Lady Griffins move on to host No. 10 Dominican (12-6-4) from New Orleans’ traditionally tough Catholic soccer league at Griffin Field Tuesday night at 7 p.m. No. 24 Westgate finishes the season 9-7-1.

“Those teams from that area are basically all entire premier teams,” Vyas said. We expect a standard of game that will be pretty high. Our girls are looking forward to it. I think we will see a heck of a game.”

The Lady Griffins started quickly with two corner kicks from Lindi Robicheaux, the second headed in by Gibbs but ruled out of play.

Gibbs then took a throw in from Rachel Jimenez and connected on a turnaround with 34:42 left to play in the first half.

Westgate then took the next five shots on goal. Lady Griffin goal keeper Taylor Kelley stopped Morgan Bulliard and Meagan Melancon’s shots before Lexi Guibeau and Danice Calvert’s corner kicks were kicked and headed out. Kelley also saved Clancey Kelly’s attempt before Dutchtown would take seven of the eight shots before half-time.

Westgate goalie Leah LeBlanc caught Jaynie Stewart’s attempt and tipped Robicheaux’s, both from far, before Cruthirds was wide left.

Cruthirds then took a pass from Jimenez in the left corner and was true on a turnaround to give Dutchtown a 2-0 lead with 9:44 left in the first half.

Cypress Boudreaux’s free kick went wide left before two attempts from Cruthirds and another by Gibbs before half.

Dutchtown’s Lexi Gibbs moves downfield on a breakaway in the first half Friday.
