Lady Gators eliminated by Byrd

SHREVEPORT - Byrd went ahead on a goal just before haltime stoppage play and added two more in the second half for a 3-0 victory over St. Amant in a Division I bi-district round playoff at Independence Stadium Friday night.

“The girls played well but we had too many injuries to overcome,” St. Amant head coach Jason Naquin said. “Byrd is a very good team. We played in the big venue with the big field on turf. They had home field advantage and knew what they were doing. They deserved to win but our girls competed.”

No. 13 seed Byrd (11-4-3) advances to face No. 4 St. Thomas More. St. Amant, the 20th seed, finishes with an overall mark of 10-12-1.

The Lady Gators were still without their leading scorer Erica Arnold.

“We were well rested,” Naquin said. “We had gone up the night before and we had a good warmup that morning.  The girls were prepared. We just suffered too many injuries at the end of the season and didn’t have all the components that we needed.”
