No. 6 Dutchtown falls to Destrehan in penalty shootout
DESTREHAN - Dutchtown dropped its first District 6-I loss 4-2 in a penalty kick shootout with Destrehan Tuesday night at Fighting Wildcat Stadium after two overtime periods.
Dutchtown (19-5-1, 8-1) missed their first three attempts in the shootout as Destrehan connected on their first two. Ricky Lawrence was true on Dutchtown’s fourth attempt but the Wildcats converted theirs to win the shootout 3-1.
“We had to be careful coming back flat after rivalry week,”?Dutchtown head coach Larry Chambless said. “We addressed it, talked about it, but still did it. At the end of the day, the players are teenagers and it becomes harder and harder to continue playing as well as they gave game after game without a let down. I'll work harder at helping them regain focus.”
Destrehan (4-5) outshot the Griffins 10-6 in a scoreless first half but went ahead seven minutes into the second half on a rebound.
During stoppage time Kenneth Salinas scored on a long throw in from Drake Fruge in the 81st minute to tie it..
The teams battled through two scoreless overtime periods with the Griffins holding a 7-1 shot advantage. Overall, Dutchtown outshot the Wildcats 20-16.
Ian Hanlon had six saves for Dutchtown and Antonio Parker also had six for Destrehan.
