Lambert’s second half goal pushes Gators pass ESJ
ST. AMANT - St. Amant’s Jaxson Lambert dipped in a long shot through the crossbar and goal keeper 15 minutes into the second half to deliver the Gators a 2-1 District 6-1 victory over East St. John Tuesday night.
“Jaxson practices those shots and he is good at them,” St. Amant head coach Adrian Garcia said. “We knew they were athletic and fast and they were going to give us everything they had in the first 20 minutes. We just tried to battle through that. We knew if we settled down and played our game, we would be all right. We missed a lot of shots tonight.”
St. Amant (8-7-4, 2-3) also got a goal from Trett Bourgeois as goalkeeper Alberto Lopez limited the Wildcats to just one early goal.
East St. John’s lone goal came from Tremond McQuarter.
“I think they have a little more depth than we do,” East St. John head coach Paul Dupuy said. “We had plenty of opportunities but we just couldn’t quite get a clean shot off. We fought as hard as we could.”
Lambert headed out Dillion Galatas’ corner kick to open the second half before East St. John goalkeeper Marco Barrera saved Bourgeois’ shot. McQuarters got Lopez out of the goal but his shot went wide right.
Lambert's far shot dipped into the goal just out of the reach of Barrera to put the Gators ahead 2-1 with 24:33 left in the first half. Bourgeois’ shot off Galatas’ corner was high before Lambert was wide right and Barrera saved Galatas’ shot. Wesley St. Pierre’s shot went high before Bourgeois connected off a rebound but was ruled offsides.
McQuarter’s opened the scoring 15 minutes into the contest before Bourgeois’ breakaway five minutes later.
