Dutchtown’s May double winner at CCSL Championships

Dutchtown’s Spencer May sets a meet record in the 100-yard backstroke at the Capital City Swim League Championships Sunday afternoon with a time 52.42.

BATON ROUGE - Dutchtown’s Spencer May won both the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-backstroke, the later a new meet record, at the Capital City Swim League Championship finals Sunday afternoon at the LSU Natatorium.

The meet featured six double winners.

May finished the backstroke in 52.42 to set the record finishing ahead of University’s Brock Davis who touched in 53.52. Davis’ preliminary time of 55.31 Saturday at Crawfish Aquatics was ahead  of May’s 56.51.

May also won the butterfly with a time of 51.76 besting Central’s Grant Grenfell who finished in 52.24. Grenfell (52.81) came in with a better time in the preliminary than May’s 54.25.

Catholic won the boys’ team title for the 17th straight year with 440 points. Baton Rouge Magnet placed second with 288 points, while University was third with 223. Dutchtown placed seventh with 127 points and St. Amant was 10th with 74 points.

St. Joseph’s won the girls’ team title with 417 points, while University was second with 311 points and Parkview Baptist placed third with 209. St. Amant finished 11th with 79 points.

David Rayner of Lee High and Kathryn Miles of University were named Outstanding Swimmers in the meet.

St. Amant’s Lexi Stone was the top local girls performer placing fourth in the 100-yard freestyle and fifth in the 200-yard individual medley. Stone touched in 59.82 in the freestyle behind winner Laura Furr of University who finished in 54.87. Her preliminary time was 59.25.

In the medley, Stone touched in 2:24.54 besting her preliminary time of 2:24.93 but behind winner Miles who finished in 2:09.10.

Dutchtown’s Charles Doofe took fifth in the boys 100-yard butterfly and eighth in the 200-yard individual medley. Doofe finished in 57.74 in the butterfly to better a preliminary time of 59.05.

In the medley, Doofe’s time of 2:09.93 was better than his preliminary time of 2:11.51. Rayner won in 1:55.38.

Dutchtown’s Taylor Gautreau placed fifth in the girls 200-yard freestyle and 10th in the 100-yard backstroke. Gautreau finished in 2:14.14 in the freestyle to better a preliminary time of 2:15.44. Miles won in 1:57.20.

In the backstroke, Gautreau’s time of 1:10.41 was better than her preliminary time of 1:11.34. Baton Rouge’s Joanne Chien won in 58.07.

St. Amant’s D.J. Ridgdell placed 8th in the boys 100-yard breaststroke and 13th in the boys 200-yard individual medley. Ridgdell time of 1:08.47 in the breaststroke bested his preliminary time of 1:08.61. Catholic’s Gabe Landry won the event in 1:01.19.

In the medley, Ridgdell finished in 2:20.83 behind his preliminary time of 2:18.45.

East Ascension’s Hannah Core placed seventh in the girls 100-yard freestyle in 1:02.17 besting her preliminary time of 1:02.24. Furr won in 54.87. Core also finished in 21st place in the 100-yard backstroke preliminaries with a time of 1:16.85.

St. Amant’s Lara Hutchinson placed seventh in the girls’ 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:18.47 better that her preliminary time of 1:19.38. Parkview’s Laura Soileau won in 1:07.29.

Hutchinson also was 24th in the 100-yard freestyle preliminaries with a time of 1:07.23.

Dutchtown’s McCall Blank was also 13th in the girls 50-yard freestyle with finishing in 28.23 ahead of her preliminary time of 28.54. Chien won in 24.24. McCall was 18th in the 100-yard freestyle preliminary with a time of 1:05.89.

East Ascension’s Megan Delatte took 15th place in the girls 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:22.22 better than her preliminary time of 1:31.13. Delatte also was 27th in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries in 29.64.

St. Amant’s Bridget Champagne placed 13th in the girls 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:39.18 to beat her preliminary time of 2:41.71.

St. Amant’s Rodney Douglas took 16th in the boys 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.38 ahead of his preliminary time of 1:17.11. Douglas also was 47th in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries with a time of 29.23.

St. Amant placed fifth in the girls 200-yard medley in 2:06.90, while Dutchtown was 11th in 2:15.95 and East Ascension took 18th in 2:38.82. On the boys side, Dutchtown placed sixth in 1:54.93, while St. Amant was eighth in 1:56.59 and East Ascension was 15th in 2:37.29.
