St. Amant’s Ridgdell, Stone qualify at final regular season meet

BATON ROUGE - St. Amant’s D.J. Ridgdell and Lexi Stone each qualified for the Division I state swimming meet Sunday afternoon at the Capital City Swim League’s final regular season meet of the year at Crawfish Aquatics.

Stone qualified in both the girls’ 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle, while Ridgdell qualified in the boys 100-yard breaststroke.

Together, they helped lead the Gators to a sixth place finish with 341 points. East Ascension placed 10th with 65 points.

Stone won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.18 ahead of St. Michael’s Kara LaBonte (1:00.73) and placed second in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.46 behind University’s Laura Furr (26.62).

Ridgdell placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.43 behind University’s Alex Welch (1:05.63) and Central’s Nicholas Polk (1:06.30) and was third in the 200-yard freestyle finishing in 2:07.41 behind University’s Brock Davis (1:48.82) and Runnel’s Dominic Pagel (1:59.59).

Lutcher won the meet with 1091 points, followed by University with 669.5 points and St. Michael with 414.

St. Amant’s girls’ 200-yard medley relay placed second in 2:08.87 and the boys team was third in 1:57.43.

Bridget Champagne took third in the girls 100-yard butterfly for St. Amant in 1:14.14 and was fifth in 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.24. 

Hannah Core led East Ascension with a fourth place finish in the girls 100-yard freestyle touching in 1:04.04, while St. Amant’s Lara Hutchinson placed sixth in 1:07.16.

St. Amant’s Trent Hebert placed seventh in the boys’ 100-yard butterfly in 1:11.73, while teammates,  Rodney Douglas was eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:16.70 and Trey Crews was ninth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:13.48. Madeleine Bailey of St. Amant was eighth in the girls’ 100-yard breaststroke in 1:31.33.

St. Amant’s girls 200-yard freestyle relay also placed third in 1:58.03, while the boys’ team was sixth in 1:47.66.

East Ascension’s Megan Delatte placed 12th in the girls 50-yard freestyle in 29.43, just behind Hutchinson’s 29.32. Claire Babin (30.66) of St. Amant edged East Ascension’s Kacy Haydel (31.28) for 20th place. Bailey placed 30th in 34.66 ahead of teammates Sydney Walters (34.72), Meagan Beary (34.92), Connie Pudlewski (35.27), Emily Little (37.14) and Melody Seward (37.96). East Ascension’s Whitney Gant took 44th place in 38.65 ahead of St. Amant’s Ashley Keller (41.87).

St. Amant’s Jake Bordelon placed eighth in the boys 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.08. Teammates Hebert (26.38) and  Crews (27.13) took 13th and 18th, respectively. Logan Viverito (29.17) finished 34th, ahead of St. Amant’s Rodney Dougals (29.42) and John Blanchard (29.67) and teammate Michael Plaissance (29.77). Zachary Hill of St. Amant touched in 31.65 for 50th place ahead of East Ascension’s Corey Wingerter (33.34).

Delatte placed 11th in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:09.06, while Babin was 14th in 1:10.92 and Haydel took 16th in 1:11.25. Ronnie Bourgeois of St. Amant was 23rd in 1:21.01 ahead of Pudlewski (1:28.55), Gant (1:29.53) and Seward (1:34.72).

Bordelon took 14th in the boys’ 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.96 ahead of Plaissance’s 1:09.79 and Viverito’s 1:11.67. Wingerter placed 28th in 1:15.48 ahead of Hill’s 1:16.27.

Little placed 16th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:57.38 and Blanchard was 23rd in the boys’ 100-yard breaststroke finishing in 1:29.79.

East Ascension placed fifth in the girls’ 400-yard freestyle relay in 5:01.23 and St. Amant was seventh in the boys’ 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:47.87. EA also placed 12th in the girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:26.76.
