St. Amant qualifies Ridgdell, Stone, Champagne for state at first meet of season

St. Amant’s Jake Bordelon starts in the 50 yard freestyle Saturday morning at the Capital City Swim League meet. Bordelon finished in 16th place with a time of 25.64.

BATON ROUGE - St. Amant qualified three competitors for the state meet at the Capital City Swim League’s second meet of the year Saturday morning.

It was the first competion either St. Amant or East Ascension’s swim teams saw this year.

St. Amant’s Lexi Stone and Bridget Champagne each qualified below the time of 2:44.95 in the girls 200 yard individual medley. Stone placed third with a time of 2:29.45, while Champagne finished seventh in 2:40.38. Laura Soileau of Parkview Baptist won the event in 2:20.21.

St. Amant also had one boy qualify in the 100 yard breaststroke. D.J. Ridgdell finished in 1:09.26 beating the qualifing time of 1:21.29. Ridgdell placed third in the event behind Gabe Landry’s time of 1:04.95 from Catholic and Alex Welch’s time of 1:07.88 of University.

In overall boys’ standings, St. Amant placed eighth with 68 points while East Ascension was 11th with 22 points. Catholic won the team meet with 532.5 points, followed by Baton Rouge Magnet with 444 points and University Lab’s 277.

On the girls’ side St. Amant took sixth place with 138 points, while East Ascension was ninth with 53 points. University won with 431 points, followed by Baton Rouge Magnet’s 388 and Parkview Baptist’s 323.

Ridgdell placed fourth in the boys 200 yard individual medley with a time 2:24.6 behind Landry’s 2:09.18. East Ascension’s Robert Hall was 15th in the event with a time of 2:56.73.

Stone placed third in the 100 yard breastroke with a time of 1:18.99 behind University’s Kathryn Miles (1:10.79). Randi Broussard (1:48.78) edged Paige Sanford (1:49.46) for 23rd place.

Hannah Core led East Ascension with a sixth place finish in the girls 200 yard freestyle.

St. Amant’s Bronte Sevario led local girls in the 50 yard freestyle with a 20th place finish in 32.30.

Teammate Connie Pudlewski finished 36th in 35.85 while Lindsay Tharp (37.65) edged East Ascension’s Ashley Humphrey (37.73) for 40th place. East Ascension’s Whitney Gant was 42nd in 38.56, while teammate Chelsea Hampton (57.52) fell short of St. Amant’s Melody Stewart’s (45.77) 49th place finish.

On the boys’ side, St. Amant’s Jake Bordelon led local swimmers with a 16th place finish in 25.64. Teammate Rodnet Douglas wa 38th in 29.57, while Ethan Thibodeaux finished 46th in 30.76. East Ascension’s Michael Plaissance was 49th in 31.59 and teammate Logan Viverito ((32.43) placed 53rd to edge St. Amant’s Dausen Loupe (32.63).

St. Amant’s Tyler Guitreau (34.24) edged EA’s Jade Tomeny (34.29) for 60th place, while Spartans John Miller (40.47) finished 70th and Aaron Gregory (47.54) was 71st.

St. Amant’s Lara Hutchinson placed 10th in the girls 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:20.42, while East Ascension’s Morgan Andrus was 12th in 1:26.39.

St. Amant’s Trey Crews (1:19.56) beat teammate Ron Bourgeois (1:29.11) for 11th place on the boys side.

Morgan (1:16.57) edged teammate Kacy Haydel (1:16.87) for 23rd place in the 100 yard girls freestyle. St. Amant’s Kirsten Morales took 28th place in 1:22.85 while teammate Pudlewski (1:24.55) was ahead of Sanford (1:24.49), Broussard (1:27.20), Ashley Humphrey (1:27.61), Reagan Broussard (1:31.15) and Tharp (1:35.22).

In the boys’ 100-yard freestyle, Bordelon finished in 14th place with a time of 1:02.22 before Blanchard (1:15.83), Loupe (1:17.69) and Bourgeois (1:18.37) consecutive finishes from 27th. Guitreau (1:28.24) edged East Ascension’s Phillip Weber (1:32.15) for 34th place and Spartan Aaron Gregory was 38th with a time of 1:45.86.

Core finished eight in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:17.10, while Haydel was 15th in 1:39.02. Hall was 17th in 1:21.54 on the boys’ side, while Viverito (1:38.26) beat Crews (1:43.09) for 24th place.

St. Amant placed fourth in the girls 200 yard medley relay  in 2:14.12 and was seventh in the 200 yard freestyle relay in 2:04.92.

St. Amant’s boys took ninth in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:50.13, while East Ascension was 16th in 2:36.23.

East Ascension’s girls took ninth in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 5:38.35  and the boys team also placed ninth in 5:37.90.
