Jones, Sanchez record Top 10 finishes at Episcopal’s Round Table Run meet

BATON ROUGE - Dutchtown’s Shelby Jones and East Ascension’s Marrisa Sanchez opened the cross country season with top 10 finishes at Episcopal’s Round Table Run at Highland Road Park Saturday morning.
Jones crossed the finish line in sixth place in 20 minutes, 21 seconds. Sanchez came in at 20:56 to place eighth.
“It went well,” Jones said. “It was a little muddy but it was nice and cool. I had an injury last year and have been working real hard.”
Dutchtown’s Jeff Boudreaux was 12th in 16:54, helping the Griffins place 13th with 380 points. East Ascension finished 15th with 444 points, while Ascension Catholic was 21st with 594 points and St. Amant finished 22nd with 625 points.
Walker, with two runners in the top 10, including Paul Arthur who finished first in 15:42, took the team title with 88 points, followed by Jesuit with 95 and Catholic with 99.
“The whole week we were out of school, we couldn’t practice and our first two meets got cancelled, so this is our first time running,” Dutchtown head coach Jason Braud said. “This is (Boudreaux’s) first year running. Our best returning guy from last year ran the junior varsity race because he has been hurt. We only ran two girls in the varsity race and both of them did well.”
East Ascension’s girls placed 13th overall with 323 points, while Ascension Catholic finished 14th with 364 points. St. Joseph’s with five runners in the top 20, took first with 47 points, followed by Dominican with 90 and Mandeville with 122.
Justin Guillory led East Ascension with a 47th place finish in 17:58. Taylor Cavalier led Ascension Catholic in 18:05 for 51st place.
Shaquille Brown contributed for Dutchtown with a 59th place time of 18:17. Nick Morris was St. Amant’s top runner placing 80th in 18:43. Dutchtown’s Chris Thompson finished in 19:03 for 87th place.
East Ascension’s Garrett Tregre placed 91st with a time of 19:09, while teammates Nathan Gibbs took 114th in 19:55 and Courtland Giardina placed 124in 20:16.
Ascension Catholic’s Jesse Pizzolato was a step behind to finish 125th in 20:19. Norman Davis was 134th after finishing in 20:28, just before Dutchtown’s Joseph Stewart and Samuel Jimenez took the next two spots in 20:41 and 20:42.
Thomas Turner placed 142nd with a time of 20:52. St. Amant’s Cody Nickel was 159th with a time of 21:40 while Ascension Catholic’s Trey Capello (21:56) edged St. Amant’s Stephen Buckner (21:57) and East Ascension’s Jordan Willz (22:00) for 161st place.
St. Amant’s John Petty (22:03) edged teammate Trett Bourgeois (22:06) for 165th place. Dustin Zeringue (23:50) of Ascension Catholic just beat Tre` Hymel (23:52) of East Ascension for 189th place.
East Ascension’s Eric Loupe (24:00) edged Ascension Catholic Jordan Zeringue (24:01) for 195th place before Kade Steib of Ascension Catholic took 201st place in 24:24.
Anthony Ficklin of St. Amant finished in 24:45 for 204th place before Blake Gregoire of Ascension Catholic finished in 25:26 for 207th place.
On the girls’ side, Dutchtown’s Emily Rezac placed 30th with a time of 22:18.
Aimee Prejeant led Ascension Catholic with a 68th place finish in 24:41. Rebecca Cavalier followed in 24:51 for 72nd place.
East Ascension’s Amanda Gibbs (25:28) and Chelsea Griggs (25:36) placed 84th and 86th. Ascension Catholic’s Miranda Chiquet finished 110nd in 27:53, while St. Amant’s Sarah Parent was 117th in 29:05.
St. Amant’s Sarah Tassin (29:21) finished 119th, just ahead of Ascension Catholic’s Amy Gregoire (29:28) and Jamie Boudreaux (29:30). Molly Mallory (29:49) of Ascension Catholic edged Annie Shocket (29:54) of East Ascension for 123rd place.
Beth Bellina (30:15) of Ascension Catholic finished 126th, while East Ascension’s Angela Authement (31:45) placed 133rd and teammate Sara Cornejo (32:04) was 136th. Ascension Catholic’s Jana St. Germain finished in 33:40 for 142nd place.
