Spartan freshmen blank St. Amant in opener
ST. AMANT - The East Ascension freshmen football team scored on its first two possessions coasting to a 19-0 victory in the first game of the Freshmen/Junior Varsity Jamboree at The Pit Saturday morning Aug. 30.
Quarterback Chase Rivet capped the Spartans’ 12-play, 70-yard drive to open the contest with an 18-yard option keeper into the end zone. The kick failed leaving the score 6-0.
Brelen Aikens recovered a St. Amant fumble at the Gator 35 on the ensuing possession and Rivet passed to Ryan Knighten from 14 yards for the score. The conversion failed leaving the score 12-0.
Darren Sharper intercepted St. Amant quarterback Kenny Matherne at the Gator 41 on the first possession of the second half.
JarMarcus Jarvis capped the ensuing three-play drive with a 3-yard burst up the gut. Adam Ray’s kick made it 19-0 with 7:30 left to play. Rivet hit Jordan Babin for a 34-yard completion to set up the score.
Wendell Williams picked up 12 yards for the Gators on the next possession but East Ascension held on fourth down after Dex Templet dropped Bryant Bourgeois for a 5-yard loss.
Jake Boriel recovered Dennis Duronslet’s fumble for the Gators at the EA 44 on the ensuing possession but St. Amant failed to gain a first down and after Zach Roy recovered an East Ascension fumble the Spartans ran the clock out.
