Letter: Thank You Mary Bird Perkins
In a world where most of us seldom say thank you enough, I thought it would be nice to say thanks to all the professional people who work at the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Gonzales. After having three cancers removed from my neck and head, I was told to get in touch with them to have 30 radiation treatments to help insure the cancer would not come back.
Over the years, like many of you, every time I would drive past the cancer center on La. 30, I would usually look over at their office and think," Boy and I gals I don't need y'all!" But, last month the inevitable happened.
I must admit the very thought of taking radiation treatments can be very frightening, but after the first visit, I k new I was in the hands of a group of caring professionals who were going to do everything possible to help me make it through this.
Every time I walk through the door, Sharon, the receptionist, gives me a warm smile and calls me by my first name. It kinda makes you feel welcome, doesn't it? Mike, Jessica and amy are the Radiation Therapists who were with me during every treatment and they always made me comfortable by reassuring me that everything is going to be fine. They even made me laugh a lot! Tiffany, the director, even went out of her way to invent a special holder to cradle my head (which still had gapping wholes left from surgery) comfortable for the treatments. Then there way "Pet-Tech Patrick" who does the pet and C scans. He was so funny and made me feel good during those otherwise "scary" tests.
Lastly, I can't say enough nice words about Dr. Charles Wood, in his tennis shoes, and his nurse, Adrian, who is so sweet and always wears a friendly smile. They were with me every step of the way, understanding and answering all my questions, telling me what to expect, and walked me through the whole experience, step by step. I knew they took my case very personal and Dr. Wood always made sure everything was progressing like it should.
I don't know of any other group I'd want to have by my side, if I ever need to go through this ordeal again.
Thank You and God Bless you all at Mary Bird Perkins for being so kind to me. Hopefully you have added many more years to my life.
From the heart of a very thankful patient,
