OUR OPINION: No guns on campus

Sometimes legislators try to do things they think are good that will help solve a problem. We don’t fault anyone for trying to be a problem solver.

But a bill in the Louisiana Legislature that would allow students to carry concealed weapons on campus, presumably so they can defend themselves, is knee-jerk reaction to the horrible shooting deaths on campuses of late.

Arming students in a learning atmosphere is not a solution to shootings on campuses. It will create more problems than it ever alleviates.

College is a volatile, hyperactive and emotional time in life. Weapons on campus will lead to many more issues and shooting deaths.

Allowing guns on college campuses would be an enormous step backward for American society.

Thank you, LSU Football Head Coach Les Miles, for stepping up and speaking out against this ill-conceived proposed legislation.
