Avengers: Age of Ultron Movie Review

Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has come to a close, and the 2015 Summer movie season has begun with “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” When Tony Stark (Robert Downey Junior) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) decide to make an artificial intelligence known as Ultron to create peace, things don’t go as planned. Ultron decides to take on a mind of his own, and with the help of Scarlet Which and Quicksilver, extinct the Avengers. Seems like a pretty simple heroes vs villains plot I would guess, but “Age of Ultron” gives us much more. With deeper character development, gripping story, and awesome action, this is the film to go see this weekend.
Joss Whedon, the man behind the first “Avengers” film is back to direct and boy does he deliver. He has a much bigger job this go around I’d say. With introducing new characters, building storylines for upcoming MCU films, and filing in the gaps between the previous film, Whedon has a lot on his plate. But with all that said the man is a genius. He’s the only man I see directing the “Avengers” films because he does such a great job. Now that I’ve touched on the director, how about I go into the “Avengers” themselves hmm?
Well it’s what you and I’d expect, they’re all great. All the “Avengers” have amazing chemistry, which is shown in a very funny scene, were Iron Man, Hulk and Captain America try to lift Thor’s hammer. But these actors aren’t just funny on screen, they produce great drama. We get to see more of Hawkeye’s background so you know where he stands into all this. You get some amazing one-on-one scenes between Banner and Black Widow that were very touching and good to see. And my goodness, James Spader as Ultron is awesome! When we heard his voice in the first teaser trailer we knew this guy was bad but we didn’t know how bad. Actually, Ultron is also quite witty and sarcastic which I didn’t expect. I can say Ultron is not only the most evil Marvel villain we’ve had so far in this universe, but probably not the most funny. Loki still takes the throne in the charisma department for villain.
The action is also very good. The Hulk VS Hulkbuster fight was everything we comic book fans expected and more. Also the fight between Captain America and Ultron on a truck trough the city was very well shot. I’d say MCU has some of the best car chase action sequences in recent film history. With “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” to now this, Marvel is proving to be an action chase sequence master.
So how is this movie? Well, the direction is great, the acting is great, the action is great. I’d say “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is a good solid A film. The only reason why it doesn’t get an A+ is because I feel the first “Avengers” was better, but this is still an amazing movie you should see. It’s a great way to kick off the summer movie season.
