We’re all winners
“In a world filled with hate, we must still dare to hope. In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream. And in a world filled with distrust, we must still dare to believe.” ― Michael Jackson
Last weekend I was blessed to participate in the ARC of East Ascension’s “Dancing for a Cause” fundraiser at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center. As a Star Dancer, I had to pay tribute to the great Michael Jackson and not just because he was such a great dancer but also because of his perspective shown in the quote.
In getting to know the members of the ARC, you quickly learn their outlook on life shows we are all winners. No matter the condition the members may have, they are all truly happy, as the Pharrell Williams song suggests – which the ARC’s group performed to.
When I was asked to participate in this year’s event, I quickly said yes. Not because I knew I could raise the most money, or because I knew I’d win it all but because no matter what I would be a winner on the inside for dedicating and committing my time to a cause. I believe firmly that anybody can right a check, but not many willingly offer time and sacrifice.
Just in the short time of getting to talk and dance with the members of the ARC, I knew that each of us community and business leaders who participated were winners. In talking to others who say they are afraid to participate, I was glad to say it’s not about having two left feet or not having the courage, it’s just about having fun with the ARC of East Ascension members. That’s what I did.
With an open heart, we must be willing to take the chance despite the odds stacked against us. The members of the ARC do every single day they wake up. They battle with this condition and that condition, yet they smile and enjoy life as the blessing it is and never bare it as a burden. The past few months have been a blast preparing for the event physically, and now that it is over I understand the commitment has made me better mentally. For that I am happy. So clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth.
