Vitter Announces $500k in Grants for La. Department of Health

BATON ROUGE – Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), on Aug. 20, announced that the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals’ (DHH) Office of Public Health (OPH) will be receiving two grants totaling $509,269 for genetics research and a food inspection program.

     “Working towards a higher standard of well-being for Louisianians is always a top priority, which is why I’m glad to see these grants are being awarded to two deserving programs that will help benefit all of Louisiana,” Vitter said.

     The National Center for Environmental Health, as part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will be awarding DHH and OPH a grant of $210,000 to build its laboratory capacity in conjunction with the Louisiana Genetics Program.

     DHH and OPH will also be receiving a grant of $299,269 from the Food and Drug Administration to comply with the Manufactured Food Regulatory Program Standards.
