A Gonzales man and his brother died as a result of a four-vehicle crash Saturday in LaSalle Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.

Matthew S. Lowe, 22, of Gonzales and his two brothers, 13-year-old Josh Lowe and 10-year-old Ben Lowe, were traveling together in a 2003 Chevrolet pickup when the crash occurred around 10:46 a.m. near the Dewey Wills Wildlife Management Area on Hwy. 28, State Police spokesperson Scott Moreau said.

The driver, Matthew Lowe, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ben Lowe died Sunday afternoon. Josh Lowe is expected to recover from his injuries.

Lowe’s pickup  crossed the centerline and collided with the rear of a 2005 Mack 18-wheeler driven by Gerald Prudhomme, 60, of Eunice. After the initial collision, Lowe’s vehicle spun around into the path of a 1990 Mack 18-wheeler driven by Patrick R. Fontenot, 54, of Eunice, Moreau reported.

Fontenot’s 18-wheeler made impact into the driver’s side of Lowe’s vehicle, according to Moreau.

Lowe was found without a seatbelt, Moreau reported. Emergency responders transported Ben and Josh Lowe to Rapides General Hospital.

Prudhomme was not injured in the crash, but Fontenot sustained minor injuries and was brought to LaSalle General Hospital, according to Moreau.

Routine toxicology tests are pending, and the incident remains under investigation.

The three Lowe brothers were returning home from a hunting camp, according to family friends.

“Anyone who knew Matt knew he would give you the shirt off of his back in a heartbeat,” read a Facebook group dedicated Matthew Lowe. “He will be dearly missed in all of our hearts.”

He was a 2005 graduate of Dutchtown High School and a 2007 graduate of Louisiana Technical College with a degree in A/C and refrigeration.
