Sutherland JV Team Finishes Undefeated Season

The Sutherland Girls’ JV Volleyball team completed an undefeated season with victories over tough Penfield, West Irondequoit and Webster Schroeder teams. The Knights beat the Patriots in a close match 25-23, 25-21 and 25-23.

They were led by Kieran Nanavati who had three kills. Hannah Catallo-Stooks and Giuliana Johnson combined for 21 digs and Mary Bayer added eight digs. Sienna Provvidenza chipped in with two aces.

Coach Allen was proud of her team’s performance, adding, “We worked for every point because Penfield plays very aggressive defense.”

The team faced West Irondequoit on their home court and beat the Eagles in another tight match 25-22, 25-16 and 28-26. The offense was led by Maddie Smith with five kills, Mary Bayer with five kills and Sidra Morchower and Sienna Providenza with two kills each. Giuliana Johnson, Hannah Catallo-Stooks and Bayer had hot serving hands combining for six aces. The Knights played a stingy defense led by Johnson’s 26 digs, Catallo-Stooks’ 12 digs and Kieran Nanavati’s nine digs. Setter Erina Nanavati also handed out 17 assists in the victory.

Sutherland traveled to Webster Schroeder for the last match of the season. They bested the Warriors 25-19, 25-10 and 25-20. Rachel Green and Mary Bayer had a big night with a combined eight aces and 10 kills. Molly Dehn added three kills, Sophie Shemirani had three aces and Julia Stachowski had one ace to round out the scoring. Ronnie Hollenberg and Sienna Provvidenza each had three digs, and Erina Nanavati had 18 assists.

For Coach Lynne Allen, this was her fourth undefeated season in the five years she has been leading the junior varsity squad.

“This team worked very hard this year,” Allen said. “They came to practice every day wanting to be better.”
