On Saturday, Sept. 5, 18-year-old, Haley Thompson officially opened the doors to her new business – Bliss Patisserie (17188 airline Highway, Prairieville).

The young self-taught baker and shop owner is a 2015 East Ascension High School graduate, who boasted a 4.3 GPA. Choosing to start a business rather than to attend college, Thompson is from a line of business owners including her grandfather, Clarence Cutno, uncle Pastor Leroy Thompson and sister, Toni Shea Thompson, owner of Shea Couture Bridal (Gonzales). At the grand opening celebration, Thompson treated new customers to free mini cupcakes and Italian ice samples. She also sold larger pastries – selling out in just two hours. The bakery will sell cakes, cupcakes, Italian ice, macaroons, ice cream from New Orleans Ice Cream Co. and what Thompson referes to as cake jars – mason jars of layered cake and filling.
