Volunteer Ascension, along with the Ascension Festivals and Cultural Council, Inc. announced that volunteers are being sought for the 2015 Ascension Balloon Festival held at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center on Friday, Sept. 25 and Saturday, Sept. 26.

This year’s festival will feature more than 30 balloons with evening balloon glows, live music, carnival rides, fireworks, a children’s village, a car show, food vendors and much more, officials said. More than 50,000 people from the region attended last year’s two-day event.

“Every year volunteers play a major role in the success of festivals and major events in Ascension Parish, and the Ascension Balloon Festival is the perfect example,” said Sherry Denig, executive director of Volunteer Ascension. “With our volunteer matrix system now available online, volunteers may log on and see what events are coming up and how they can find the event position most suitable for them.”

Denig said new volunteer opportunities for the balloon festival are being added to the volunteer matrix, available at VolunteerAscension.VolunteerMatrix.com.

She said volunteers who have registered may pick up their packets on the week of the festival at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center business office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each packet will include a name tag, a pass to enter, food tickets, volunteer assignment info and contact numbers at the site.
