Ascension Parish Fire District #1 and the State Fire Marshal’s Office have entered into a cooperative endeavor agreement that will provide grant funds to purchase new fire and emergency equipment for the parish’s volunteer firefighters.

“This equipment will be used to ensure the best safety to our personnel and also maintain our important fire insurance rating,” said District #1Fire Board Chairman James LeBlanc.

In response to the provision of the grant, State Fire Marshal H. “Butch” Browning, Jr. credited State Representative Johnny Berthelot for his leadership in the legislative process, his tireless efforts for firefighters and for facilitating the securing of the grant.

“Ascension Parish is well served by Fire District #1 and we are proud to partner together to better protect people and their property,” Browning said.

The $200,000 grant will be used towards the purchase of protective clothing and self-contained breathing units for firefighters and vehicle rescue/extraction tools for Lake, Geismar, Sorrento and St. Amant fire stations, respectively.
