Free seminar aids in starting your own business

Ascension Parish Library invites all interested persons to attend a free small business seminar, Starting and Financing a Small Business. It is designed for individuals who want to learn what it takes to start and run a successful small business. The program will focus on helping participants learn how to determine the feasibility of their idea as well as how to obtain a small business loan. The speaker will be a senior business consultant with the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University and A&M College – Baton Rouge. The seminar will be held at the library in Dutchtown, on Thursday, June 18, at 6:30 p.m. Advance registration is required. Call 673-8699 today!

‘Line Dancing 102’

From wedding receptions to family reunions, line dancing’s got the party rockin’ from coast to coast! Ever wish you could join the fun, but just don’t know how? We’re playing your song! Dust off those dancing shoes and boot, scoot, and boogie on down to Ascension Parish Library in Galvez for “Line Dancing 102” on Tuesday, June 23rd at 6:30 PM. Instructor Donna Scanlan will be on hand to guide you every step of the way to a toe-tappin’, foot-stompin’ good time. Teen programs offered

Do our library programs seem too girly to you? Are you a guy looking for a program that’s more macho? Then this is the program for you! Join us for an afternoon of crazy, manly fun as we explore alternative art – tattoo a banana and learn all about graffiti as you create your own tag on Tuesday, June 23rd at 2:00 PM in Gonzales or on Friday, June 26th at 2:00 PM in Donaldsonville!

Sometimes stress can be a serious bummer. The pressure of school, parents, and jobs can be almost too much to bear. From aromatherapy to hair chalking, the Ascension Parish Library has your ticket to relaxation and fun. Join us on Thursday, June 25th at 2:00 PM in Galvez to learn some easy, eco-friendly, and chemical-free ways to look beautiful and to minimize stress.

Sign up for the Unmask summer reading program when you stop in to participate in any teen event. Teens entering sixth grade through twelfth grade are eligible to join our reading program. Any teen who is registered for the reading program can complete it by submitting three book reviews or attending three teen programs during the months of May, June, and July. All teens who complete the reading program will receive a free bowling pass courtesy of Premier Lanes and will be able to select between two completion prizes: a sports bag or a t-shirt. Teens who submit additional prize cards are eligible for our end of the summer drawings. If you are looking for the biggest discount, then try 100% off at the library. The Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales welcomes you to Free + Recycling = Freecycling. Bring any of your gently used items, and trade for any other freecycled items. Clean out your closet, make room in the garage, bring in the toys the kids don’t play with, and get something in return. It’s the area’s largest free garage sale. Don’t dig for spare change or swipe another card. Free + Recycling = Freecycling will take place at the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales on June 27 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SCORE Offers Free Counseling

Ascension Parish Library and SCORE – Baton Rouge offer free, on-site counseling in Ascension Parish for new business start-ups and mentoring for existing businesses. Counseling sessions are held at two library locations each month by appointment: the first Tuesday morning at the library in Gonzales and the third Thursday afternoon at the library in Dutchtown.

SCORE - Counselors to America’s Small Business, a nonprofit Association and a resource partner of the Small Business Administration, is dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide.

Counselors are active or retired business owners and executives with extensive experience, who follow the steps on “How to Start and Manage a Successful Business.” This includes help on the Business Plan, Financial Forecast, Marketing & Sales, Legal and Accounting suggestions, Business Insurance needs, and the Bank Loan Package preparation. SCORE counselors follow a strict code of ethics and confidentiality.

This year SCORE will begin expanding its education opportunities in the community for small businesses with a new Simple Steps Program and a stronger Community Alliance Program. These New Programs will help SCORE become an even more valuable resource in our community.
