The Louisiana Rural Caucus has announced the election and appointment of officers for the 2015-2016 year, and has appointed State Representative John Berthelot, R-Gonzales.
As chairman, Representative Jack Montoucet, D-Crowley appointed seven members of the caucus, in addition to Representative Berthelot, to serve as officers on the executive committee. They are Representatives Andy Anders of Vidalia, Ed Price of Gonzales, Clay Schexnayder of Burnside, Rob Shadoin of Ruston, as well as, Senators Rick Gallot of Ruston and Francis Thompson of Delhi. Montoucet said, “I am confident that we can work together to find common ideas and share solutions that address the issues in our state.”
The Rural Caucus, whose membership includes 87 legislators from around the state, is an organization that serves to promote and better the conditions and objectives of rural areas of Louisiana.
“I am honored to serve my constituents and the great state of Louisiana as a member of Louisiana’s Rural Caucus. We have a great deal of issues facing our state today, and I look forward to working together with my fellow members to make Louisiana the best she can be,” Berthelot said.
Elected to the House in 2011, Berthelot serves on the Appropriations, House and Governmental Affairs, and Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs committees, as well as the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget. In addition to the Rural Caucus, he is also a member of the Acadiana Delegation, Capital Region Legislative Delegation, and Republican Delegation. Berthelot represents House District 88, which encompasses Ascension Parish.
