Choosing to Live: Book Signing at Landry's Pharmacy
On June 4, Landry's Pharmacy will host a book signing featuring local resident Shannon M. Braud from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Recently, Braud wrote a memoir entitled "A Date to Die: And An Unexpected Choice to Live." The purpose of the book is to get the word out about mental illness and suicide. These are two subjects that people refrain from talking about, yet they greatly affect our society.
Braud explained, "I wrote this book in hopes of helping others to not live certain aspects of my life."
Following a book purchase by Landry's Pharmacy owner Benny Landry, Shannon asked if he would consider letting her have a signing at the store. He agreed without question.
Landry said, "As an intrinsic part of the Gonzales community, we felt like hosting this event to show our support for the Braud family was a wonderful idea."
Braud also said that there was a personal connection. Since its opening in 1947, her family has been customers at the store.
Previously, she has done a signing at P.J.'s Coffee Shop. In September, she will conduct a suicide panel at the Goodwood Library in Baton Rouge. She is constantly looking for signings to spread awareness of her book.
