VFW presents awards to winners of the Americanism and Voice of Democracy programs

The Gonzales Memorial Post VFW 3693 presented awards March 14 to the 2015 winners of the VFW Post sponsored Americanism and Voice of Democracy programs. The goals of the Americanism program are to promote patriotism, teach elementary and middle school students about our American heritage, demonstrate the proper care of the U.S. Flag, and ensure that the public will never forget the sacrifices made by America’s soldiers. The VFW established the Voice of Democracy program (VOD) in 1947 to provide students grades 9-12 the opportunity to express themselves in regards to democratic ideas and principles.

Americanism Category I (Kindergarten) winners for 2015 are 3rd place Lillian McClure of St. Amant Primary; 2nd place Sophie Ourso of Galvez Primary; and 1st place at the Post level and 3rd place in District 8 Amelia Garvin of St. Amant Primary.

Americanism Category II (1st and 2nd Grades) winners for 2015 are 3rd place Elise Bourgeois of St. Amant Primary; 2nd place Kaedyn Mumphrey of Galvez Primary; and 1st place at Post and District 8 level and 2nd place at the state level Nathan Blair of Lake Elementary.

Americanism Category III (3rd and 64h Grades) winners for 2015 are 3rd place Gabe Keller of Lake Elementary; 2nd place Gracie Frederic of Lake Elementary; and 1st place at the Post and 1st place at District 8 level Addie LeBlanc of Lake Elementary.

Americanism Category IV (5th and 6th Grades) winner for 2015 is 1st place at Post level and 2nd place in District 8 is Kylie Trosclair.

Voice of Democracy (9th through 12th Grades) 2015 winners are in 3rd place Parker Vige of East Ascension High; 2nd place Morgan Higginbotham of East Ascension High; and 1st Place Anastasia Britton of East Ascension High.
