Becnel, Byron

He was a resident of Prairieville and passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the age of 51. He was 51 and a resident of Prairieville. He was born in New Orleans, on September 30, 1963. As a registered Professional Engineer, Byron was employed with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development as a Traffic Engineering Development Administrator. He received both a Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering and Master's degree in Civil Engineering from LSU. He was on staff in the LSU Civil Engineering Department and also served as a longtime Track Official at LSU. Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 17, at Household of Faith Church in Gonzales and will continue at the church on Thursday, December 18 at 8 am until funeral services at 10 am. Burial will follow at Oak Lane Memorial Park, Hwy 73 in Prairieville.

Kevelyn Paul Babin

He passed away at 2:36 pm on Sunday, December 15, 2014 of natural causes. He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, St. Mark Ushers Society, Seventh District Fire Department, The Jambalaya Association and was a lifetime follower and friend of the Na Na Sha Band. He was also retired from the Ormet Corporation located in Burnside, Louisiana. He was 81. Interment in St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church Cemetery.

Barlett, Dennis Ray

A native of Houston, TX and a resident of Prairieville, he passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales at 10:12am on Monday, December 8, 2014. He was 32 and was a carpenter. . Arrangements by Church Funeral Services, St. Amant 225-644-9683

Boudreaux, Kenneth James "Kenny"

A resident of Geismar, he passed away at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center at 9:39 pm on Monday, December 8, 2014. He was 54 and worked as a fabricator. Interment will be at New River Methodist Cemetery. He was a member of A.A. where he provided support, love and friendship to many. He was also a member of Church in the Wind, his beloved "motorcycle church."

Bourque Jr., Murphy Joseph "M J"

A native and resident of Gonzales, died on Friday, December 12, 2014, at 9:10 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. He was 75. He was a retired operator from BASF. Burial in Hope Haven Garden of Memory. He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church.

Carline, Claire Alyssa

On Tuesday, December 9, 2014, God called his precious little angel, Claire Alyssa Carline, home in heaven. Claire, age 15, was a resident of Prairieville. She was a very creative and fantastic artist who always used her talents as a means of expression with her friends and family. She was an honor student who always expected excellence in her school work and she often helped tutor other kids so they could excel and reach higher achievements. Claire had a strong personality and didn't appreciate kids who bullied others. She often expressed concern for them and would do whatever she could to help. Claire was also very driven and hated to procrastinate about anything. She is survived by her loving parents, Troy and Lisa Carline; sisters, Camille and Colleen Carline; grandparents, Charles and Nora Carline and Carrie Doucet; aunts and uncles, Travis Carline and wife, Amy, Maxine Savoy and husband, Dwight, Jamie Carline and wife Kelly, June Lacour and husband Gil, Brian Carline and wife, Julia, Kenny Carline and wife, Lisa, Rose Comeaux and husband, William, Ellen King and husband Dave and numerous cousins. Claire is preceded in death by her grandfather, L. Charles Doucet; great-grandfather, Ivory Carline; cousin, Benjamin McLean; great aunts, Carolyn Rodrigue and Inez Denoux. Visitation was held on Sunday, December 14 at Ourso Funeral Home Gonzales. Visitation resumed on Monday, December 15, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Prairieville, followed by Mass of Christian Burial with Fr. Jerry Martin celebrating.

Hymel, Jr., James I.

He passed on December 8, 2014 as a result of complications associated with Alzheimer's, He was 91 and a resident of Convent. "Jimmy or Mr. Jimmy" as everyone called him was born on Oct 18, 1923, to Jim & Marine Gravois Hymel of Convent. He was a 1941 graduate of Jesuit High School, and in 1945 he married the love of his life Marie Simon. He is survived by his children: James, III, and wife JoAnn DeLeo; Marine "Winky" and husband, Anthony "Buzz" Nobile; and Jackie & husband, Judge Guy Holdridge. Jimmy was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather & great grandfather. He took great pride in the fact that he and his wife started / owned Hymel's restaurant in Convent where he shared good food and good times with old and newly made friends for 60 years. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Ascension Savings & Loan and a very active member and life-long contributor to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. His Grandchildren include: Teddi Hymel Hessburg & husband Tommy Hessburg, Maura Nobile Johnson & husband Derrick Johnson, Jonathan Nobile, Adrienne Holdridge, Aimee Holdridge, & Reed Holdridge. His Great grandchildren are: Marie Josee' (MJ) Hymel, Mary Elizabeth Johnson & Katherine Marie Johnson. Internment in St. Mary's Chapel in Union.

LaPorte, Nathan Antoine

A resident of Gonzales, he passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the age of 86. He had retired from the Local 406, International Union of Operating Engineers, as a Heavy Equipment Operator Entombment to follow in Hope Haven Mausoleum, Gonzales.

Landry, Earline R.

She passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014. She was 83. She was a resident of Donaldsonville and was currently living with her son, in Baton Rouge. Entombment in Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church mausoleum.

McClure, Jack Jones

A native of Wellington, TX, and a resident of Prairieville, he passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2014. He was 93, a veteran of the United States Army, and a retired salesman. He attended Fullerton Junior College. Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home, Wellington, TX, on Sunday, December 7 with graveside services Monday, December 8. A memorial service was held at Ascension Baptist Church, Gonzales, Louisiana, on Friday, December.

Rogers, Selby G.

A lifelong resident of St. Amant, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 6, 2014. He was 76 and employed with Barry Schexnaydre Inc. as a Heavy Equipment Operator. A memorial visitation was held at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales on Saturday, December 13, followed by a memorial service.

Schexnayder, Melton "Shake"

He passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 12:44 a.m. at the age of 80. He was born and raised in Crowley and a resident of Prairieville, In his early years, he was a Marine PFC E2 from 1953-1956, who served in the Korean War. He was a crane operator prior to becoming a well-known caterer who established and owned Jambalaya By Shake for 40+ years. In the late 70's, he was also the owner of Shake's Jambalaya & Seafood Restaurant on Greenwell Springs Road in Baton Rouge. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge.

Stewart, Claude "Pete"

He was born May 15, 1924 and departed this life on December 14, 2014. He was born on the family farm in Dundy County, Max, Nebraska. He has always been in construction work and was a bricklayer for many years. While living in Borger, TX he went into commercial contracting and later the family moved to Florida and finally settled in Gonzales. Interment will be at Lusk Cemetery.

Watts, Joe Elliott

He passed away Dec. 8, 2014, at his home in French Settlement. He was 70. He was a 1962 graduate of French Settlement High School, a U.S. Army Veteran who voluntarily served in the Vietnam War, and a retired member of IBEW Local 995. Burial in Colyell Baptist Church Cemetery..
