The Gonzales Garden Club has kicked off its service year with a traditional gathering at the home of Lorraine Gautreau on September 10. Member Conchita Richey highlighted the club’s 18 service projects described in a detailed 2014-15 handbook as “the basis for a successful year.” Gail Lonibos discussed participation at garden meetings at the district and state levels. Member Marilyn Oubre listed several practical recommendations to protect yards and gardens from hurricane damage. Marilyn Rice organized garden tours, and Historian Ellen Richmond presented GGC President Priscilla Monson with a book of 2013-14 club photos. Members named new annual plants in their home gardens, brought bud vase samples, and critiqued horizontal flower arrangements. Home hostess Lorraine Gautreau has been a cherished member of the GGC for 35 years. She enjoys “the companionship of her fellow club members who take care of plants almost like your babies.”
